Chapter Five

Things to Be Aware Of

There are several medical situations that you need to be aware of before you start this program. As I have said repeatedly in this book, you need to check with your doctor before starting this program. Medically and physically, this is for your health and safety as you travel though this process.

Now, I do understand that many of you could have a problem with this, because you may have found that your doctor does not want to help you taper off the medication.

If this happens to be your circumstances, then check The Road Back website www.theroadback.org or call us at 1-866-892-0238. We are constantly adding doctors to our already existing list of those who endorse and use The Road Back Program to help their patients taper off psychiatric medications. You can also look for doctors who are more integrative in their approach to medicine and its application in helping their patients to heal.  These Doctors would have a broader view of medicine, a greater understanding of how nutritional support relates to the body, or would be open to and / or schooled in different healing methods.

As this is your journey, look for those who can and will help you to travel the road that has already been laid out for you.

Physical Conditions and Drug Interactions

Over the years, I have had so many people contact me with questions about things they are doing in their lives and / or medications they are taking, and wondering if they can use these in combination with The Road Back Program. My answer has always been to check with their doctor as to any medications they are taking, and how these could interact with other supplements, vitamins, drugs and so on. But, having said that, I do know there are various medical conditions and / or drugs that could possibly interfere with this program, and they are as follows:

1.      Blood thinners and heart medication

Omega 3 and Vitamin E both thin the blood.  Taking either of these supplements, on top of a medication that is already thinning your blood, could be contra-indicated, or not advised.  But this is for your doctor to determine

2.      Clotting agents

Some of the supplements used on The Road Back contain naturally high levels of Vitamin K.  This vitamin has clotting and healing properties, and as such, could create additional clotting that would not be beneficial. But, again, this is for your doctor to determine

Alternative Therapies

While I am a believer in natural health and healing practices, each practice has its own purpose and end result. In addition, I have found that they can often be counterproductive, when used in conjunction with The Road Back Program. For instance, any alternative therapy or health practice, that recommends other and additional nutrients, supplements, vitamins, drips, sprays, drinks, and methodologies, can and do exacerbate, aggravate or make worse, the very sensitive process that we are trying to guide you through now.

Due to your psychiatric medications, your system is essentially balanced on the “head of a pin,” meaning that your tolerance for anything can be, or is, very limited.

The Road Back Program has been researched and developed around very specific parameters, undercutting any other health products you might be taking. While these other health products might be great in a healthy, balanced body, they often do not mix well with psychiatric medications, and your tapering process. Right now, what you need is to slowly and safely taper off your medications.  Add your other health products back into your daily regime, once you have completed the process you have now ventured upon. After you are completely and safely off these medications, by all means, help yourself.

When you are on The Road Back Program, and try to add other health products into the program, that are not part of it, you are just doing one more thing to overload your already over loaded system. For this reason, I very highly recommend that you evaluate these alternative therapies, practices, nutritional items, and restrict them until after you have successfully completed your program.

Specifically, anything that will move your medications too rapidly through your body should be avoided.

Remember, “Slow and steady wins the race”.
